About Purple Haze
Feeling a little strange and not sure why? It could be because you’ve just indulged in some potent Purple Haze. Purple Haze is a sativa-leaning strain which gets its name from its lineage and Jimi Hendrix’s 1967 song. This bud is said to be a specific phenotype of Haze, although some Hemp enthusiasts believe it to be a cross between Haze and an unspecified purple flowering Indica.
Purple Haze flowers can be easily identified, with medium to large-sized flowers retaining a spade-like form, narrowing down from a broad base to a pointed tip. These buds have a relatively loose structure with their soft, fluffy-looking leaves spiraling loosely outward from their central stems, which is true to their sativa heritage. The leaves themselves are a patchwork of natural green and the deep purple that the strain is named after. Finally, these flowers are coated in sticky trichomes, which account for their psych activity.
When correctly cured, purple haze gives off a dank, musty scent. A second sniff reveals some tart, berry-like notes. On the other hand, breaking up or separating the flowers releases the herbal aroma that fans of Haze love. Purple Haze provides a very smooth and easily ingested smoke when combusted in a pipe or joint. The smoke has a sweet and hashy flavor upon exhale. Interestingly, despite its purple coloring, this strain has no identifiable grape flavors. This is because the pigments that provide its color do not affect its taste.
Continue Reading Below Seeds of true Purple Haze may be hard to locate for sale online. The Netherlands-based seed bank Flying Dutchmen sells seed stock of the original Haze. Some of these may yield the unique purple Haze phenotype. A more reliable option could be taking clippings from existing plants of the strain in order to foster “clones.” This strain’s plants typically grow tall and may need to be trimmed to grow in limited indoor grow spaces. Purple Haze flowers within 9-10 weeks when grown indoors.
